21 Dec Led Zeppelin Perform At Alexandra Palace London (22-12-1972)
"Stairway To Heaven" Live at Alexandra Palace
Led Zeppelin took to the stage on this day in 1972 to perform an extraordinary set to celebrate their triumphant return to the London stage for the first time in 12 months.
The band performed at Alexandra Palace in north east London; a venue never designed for rock concerts, but rather for classical recitals. Nonetheless, the mighty Zep drew 12,000 fans over two nights and nothing but positive reviews from the press, despite problems with Alexandra Palace’s acoustics. The set included numerous favourites from their first 4 albums including but not limited to; “Dazed and Confused”, “Whole Lotta Love”, and of course, Stairway.
The entire concert was later released as a vinyl in both bootleg and official versions.
