07 Dec 36 Years Since John Lennon’s Death
On this day in 1980, the world lost a great advocate for peace and an immensely creative man in the form of John Lennon.
Murdered in the archway of his New York residence, Lennon was shot four times by crazed fan Mark David Chapman, and was announced dead upon his arrival to the Roosevelt Hospital. The public mourning was extensive and tributes were provided by musical greats including Elton John and David Bowie. Lennon’s extensive campaign for peace was then left in the hands of his wife Yoko Ono, who has worked tirelessly to ensure his legacy is both remembered and continued.
John Lennon inspired musicians and regular citizens alike to realise the power in their hands to make a difference towards the cruelty he saw in the world. His words for peace have reverberated through multiple generations and he remains a well-known and much-celebrated figure both for his musical talent and his advocacy of a peaceful world.
36 years after his death, Lennon’s wife Yoko Ono and many others continue his valuable work, promoting the same message he did in 1969.
